Houses & Apartments

New terraced houses and apartment building

Ripon, North Yorkshire, 2011  (unbuilt)

Design

The scheme consists of two new residential ranges separated by a shared open space, which combine together as a single block. Within the site is a terrace of five houses, and facing a private roadway are four apartments over three floors with views out onto an adjacent river. The frontage is positioned in continuation of the existing street building line and the layout is arranged to minimise impact and overlook onto neighbouring houses.

Flood prevention measures at the time required ground floor accommodation to be at a raised level. As a result all hallways have interior steps forming an additional lower front entrance area, and an exterior ramp allows level access to rear entrances from across a small landscaped square situated between the two building ranges.

Planning and building regulations approvals were implemented in 2011, however the site was eventually sold and subsequently developed with an alternative scheme.
